The music series “Mid-Day Music at Melville” will continue at Melville United Church in Fergus on the first three Wednesdays of December. Pianist Brad Halls is taking the audience on a musical tour through the past 100 years of the history of the Broadway musical, with a presentation of the many enduring classic songs from some of the greatest of the past century’s songwriters. Each performance begins at 12 noon and continues to about 1 p.m.
On December 6, the songs come from the Broadway seasons of 1946 and 1947, and will feature songs from memorable productions such as Annie Get Your Gun, Brigadoon, Finian’s Rainbow and many more. Come and enjoy many classic songs such as Almost Like Being in Love, Come Rain or Come Shine, Old Devil Moon, They Say It’s Wonderful and many more.
On December 13 and December 20, we will shift our focus and enjoy two performances of wonderful Christmas music, as Brad will present seasonal songs and carols – both the very familiar and perhaps some new as well. Come prepared to sing along with some of your own favourites.
“Mid-Day Music” will then take a two-week break over the weeks of December 27 and January 3 for the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, and the series will resume on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 with a celebration of music from Broadway shows that debuted in the seasons of 1948 and 1949.
There is no admission charge for these presentations, but a voluntary contribution to Melville United to help keep the heat and lights on, and the piano tuned, is always gratefully received.
