Programs & Groups

Melville hosts plenty of programs and groups that are designed to help strengthen faith and get people involved with the community. If you’re interested in joining one of our programs you can contact us for further details.

Sunday Morning Programs

Kids’ Church For children from Junior Kindergarten to grade 4 Opening with some fun singing, and a great story, kids then move to organized activities, or explore the day’s theme through free play in our various activity centres.
Tween Church For youth in grades 5 and 6 A more in depth look at stories from the Bible, Tween Church explores the stories of our faith tradition through videos, readings, and discussion.
Nursery For infants and toddlers up to 3 years old A nursery room for families with children up to the age of 3 is available. Volunteers are available to provide respite so parents are able to enjoy the worship service.

Youth and Family Programs

Bananas This is a group for young people in grades 5 through 8. They meet on the first Sunday of each month from 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
Mangos This group is for young people from grade 7 up. A group of interested youth participates in a variety of social justice projects throughout the year. Two examples are: the 30 Hour Famine and Shanty Town.
Faith Explored This is a program available to young people from grade 8 and up. They meet on selected dates throughout the year. These young people explore the question “What Is This Faith All About?” Some participants may choose to become members of the United Church through confirmation at the conclusion of the year but this is not a necessary condition for participation.

Adult Programs and Activities

Melville Spirituality Circles The purpose of the Spirituality circle is to provide aid and support in the individual’s spiritual journey as participants strive to embody the ideals demonstrated by Jesus. This self-guided group shares their spiritual journeys with each other in a safe supportive atmosphere.
Spirituality For Men The participants meet at 7:30 PM at the home of one our members.
United Church Women The purpose of the U.C.W. is: to unite women of the congregation for the total mission of the church and to provide a medium through which they may express their loyalty and devotion to Jesus Christ in Christian witness, study and service. Melville U.C.W. has two units each meeting monthly. Each meeting usually has a short worship time and possibly a speaker on a topic of interest to the group. Unit Faith/Grace meets the last Tuesday of the month at 2:00 PM. Unit Joy meets the third Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
Quilters of Melville Quilters gather each Tuesday at 9:00 AM at Melville United Church in the Heritage Hall to quilt. They have a coffee break at about 10:30 at which time Show and Tell might take place but there is always friendly fellowship. The quilters bring a lunch and eat around noon, then quilt until 2:00 PM. If you are interested in joining, come anytime. If you wish to learn how to quilt, we are willing to help you. Also, if you wish to just join the group for lunch you are welcome. The quilters supply the tea and coffee.
Friday Morning Coffee Hour This is a time of fellowship, conversation and refreshment for members of the church community and friends. All are welcome. Coffee hour is held at Melville United Church in the Beatty Parlour between 10:00 and 11:00 AM every Friday.
Men’s Hockey A group of men from Melville along with some from the wider community meets every Sunday evening at 10:00 PM from September until early April at the Fergus Sportsplex for pick up hockey.
