Presented and performed by pianist and singer
BRAD HALLS
The music concert series Mid-Day Music at Melville returns to Melville Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 12 noon until about 1 p.m. Brad will feature selections from movies released in 1944. The tide of World War II began to turn in the Allies favour, but many dark days of wartime were still to come, and again the world of the movies both reflected those serious wartime truths and also provided escape from the struggles by providing home-front entertainment. Great songwriters such as Frank Loesser, James Van Heusen, Jerome Kern, Ira Gershwin, Jule Styne created songs introduced by the box-office king of the 1940s, Bing Crosby, in the first screen performances of Frank Sinatra and other great stars of the era from Judy Garland and Gene Kelly to Roy Rogers! Enjoy great songs including “Like Someone in Love”, “I’ll Walk Alone”, ”The Boy Next Door”, “Long Ago and Far Away” and many more.
There is absolutely no admission charge to attend any of these concerts, but a voluntary donation, all of which will go to Melville United Church to help keep the heat on and the piano tuned, is always gratefully received.
